Jewelry masterpieces that go hand in hand with world cinema

Jewelry and cinema, are two fields that seem to have nothing to do with each other, yet there is a strange and enduring connection between them. The history of Cartier is closely linked with the history of art, especially Saturday art. For the first time, in 1926, the brand appeared on the big screen in the film “The Son of the Sheik” by G. Fitzmaurice. Actor Rudolph Valentino convinced the director to let him wear Cartier’s Tank watch in the film.

After that, many actors followed Rudolph, ushering in a golden age when the high-end jewelry brand from France began to parallel the history of cinema. In Paris, in 1946, Cartier adorned the graceful beauty of Josette Day with flawless diamond artifacts in “Beauty and the Beast”. In 1950, actress Gloria Swanson lit the screen of the movie “Sunset Boulevard” with two daring Cartier diamond and crystal bracelets.

From film to film, with interwoven stories, Cartier’s relationship with legendary clients continues to shine. It was Grace Kelly, who wore the ring Prince Rainier gave her for the last time on screen in “High Society”. Or Mexican actress María Félix, known for her signature lavish style, sported a groundbreaking alligator necklace from the French maker.

Some of the jewels that once appeared on the silver screen are now part of the Cartier Collection which will be exhibited in Venice from August 30 to September 11, on the occasion of the Venice International Film Festival – Biennale Cinema 2022. Created in 1983, the Cartier Collection includes some 3,500 pieces dating from the 1860s to the 2000s, a unique testament to the brand’s history and endless creativity.

At the same time, starting in 2021, Cartier has become an official partner of the Venice International Film Festival. This is part of the brand’s cultural commitment to supporting the arts, especially cinematic art. Through this partnership, Cartier demonstrates its acumen for contemporary creativity in general, and for today’s film industry in particular. Therefore, it is not difficult to recognize, that many beautiful people who appeared at the festival with splendid and delicate jewelry from Cartier.
