Australian Open tennis tournament kicks off 2022
After the controversy regarding the entry to Australia of the world No. 1 male tennis player – Novak Djokovic, the Australian Open 2022 tennis tournament officially started today (January 17) without the Serbian player when he was forced to leave Australia.
Without Djokovic, the attraction of the first Grand Slam tournament of the year will be significantly reduced. However, there are still notable faces attending the tournament such as Rafael Nadal, Daniil Medvedev or Alexander Zverev. The first matches of the tournament began at 7am this morning (January 17 – Vietnam time).
On the first day of competition, Nadal will face American opponent – Marcos Giron at about 10 am (Vietnam time). Meanwhile, the 3rd seed – Alexander Zverev will face his compatriot Daniel Altmaier in a match at about 3:30 pm
Barcelona leader forced to resign after calling Rafael Nadal “national enemy”
Alfons Godall, president of the Barcelona Foundation, had to resign after posting his views on his social page and calling superstar tennis player Rafael Nadal a “national enemy”. The reason Mr. Godall made this statement is because Nadal is a fan of Real Madrid – Barcelona’s traditional rival.
The statement of Alfons Godall was assessed as “dangerous for Barcelona” and “dangerous for the Barcelona Foundation”.
In his status lines on Twitter, Gofall also insulted F1 driver Fernando Alonso because he is a Real Madrid fan.
President Joan Laporta later confirmed Gofall had to resign because of cynical and thoughtless statements about a superstar, a proud great Spaniard. The head of the Barcelona club also said that it was Nadal who made him love tennis and love Nadal’s spirit.
Alfons Gofall himself later announced on his social page that he had resigned because of the above statements.
Rafael Nadal has just won his 21st Grand Slam title in his career, after a comeback, defeating Russian tennis player Medvedev in the final of the Australian Open.
After surpassing rivals Federer and Djokovic to have 21 major titles, Nadal is certain that he will continue to conquer more awards.
