From the recently released “The Crown” Season 5 to the much-anticipated Prince Harry’s memoir, the royal family is a hot topic. One of the newest elements to join the story is none other than Princess Diana herself, or rather Princess Diana’s fashion.

As one of the most famous fashion figures in the royal family to date, the items that the “national princess” wore throughout her life are still historic and highly sought after. Access to such clothes is a near-impossible request, making Sotheby’s upcoming auction of a dress the Duchess once wore an unprecedented event.

More than the usual outfit, the dress was worn by the Princess in a royal portrait while sitting next to King Charles in 1991, by photographer Mario Testino. The dress was the work of Victor Edelstein, the Princess’ much-loved British couturier, who was also behind many of her famous outfits for more than a decade. The strapless evening gown is crafted in deep aubergine velvet, accented by a tulip-shaped skirt, and delicately embellished with three floral buttons at the back.

The evening gown was originally designed for Edelstein’s Fall/Winter 1989 collection, although during the drafting process, it was revealed that he was constantly thinking of Princess Diana. As one of the most historic outfits of the Princess of Wales, the model also appears in a mural by the Royal Marsden Hospital Cancer Foundation. Adding to the dress’s legacy is the 1998 Franklin Mint limited edition Princess Diana doll, where the dress was featured in a collection of the most iconic outfits.

In the “The One” auction curated by Sotheby’s, the precious evening gown will be among other high-end products representing the extraordinary historical achievements of man and embodying excellence at hand. technical profession.

Starting January 21, the dress will be on display alongside items from the Sotheby’s Masters Week exhibition and will be auctioned on January 27 in the “The One” live auction.
