Bulgari has dominated the world records for ultra-thin mechanical watches for the past decade, from the Octo (2012) and then the super-small Octo Finissimo (2014). Bulgari’s achievements have revolutionized the concept of watch thickness.

The story seems to have ended but the adventure continues. The birth of the Octo Finissimo Ultra – the glorious peak of achieving absolute thinness with a thickness of only 1.8 mm, slightly thicker than a very thin American coin. Along with the achievement of ultra-thin is the breakthrough when the watch will come with a set-up box, opening up an unprecedented digital future.

The Octo-series 10th-anniversary watch itself is essentially the same 1.8mm-thin Octo Finissimo Ultra that Lex shared early last year. The only subtle difference is that the dial of this version has the number 10 instead of the numbers 6 and 12 of the original version. This expensive detail won an award at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG).

According to Bulgari, it served as “a final salute” to the Octo collection’s 10th anniversary that evening in Geneva.

Seeing Octo win the GPHG award has become a routine thing because no one has been able to disrupt those superlative creations.

In previous years, an average of every two years, Bulgari secured a place in the Geneva awards ceremony (2017, 2019, 2021, 2022). However, this classic iteration takes on a special aspect, representing the end of a cycle that has broken all records (eight consecutive world records, and more than 60 international awards). And yet, behind the scenes, the Roman jeweler is still engrossed in the story…

The 10th Anniversary Edition of the Octo line of watches is limited to 10 pieces with a 10 o’clock engraving. The brand says each of the 10 watches in the Octo Finissimo Ultra 10th Anniversary series will come in a high-tech display case that will “open up new horizons in the virtual world”.

Bulgari has completely reinvented the idea of ​​watch setting and winding.

The Octo Finissimo Ultra can still be placed by hand, but the uncased case offers a whole new interaction: collectors can place the watch in a digital display case and program the desired time. . Then it only takes a push of a button to start the cycle and as soon as the precious box is closed, magic happens inside. When unboxing after 20 seconds, the owner will have a watch perfectly set to the desired time and fully wound – gently, delicately, and with infinite precision.

The box without the watch can be understood as a “home watchmaker”. It intervenes and optimizes the experience with Bulgari’s Octo Finissimo Ultra.

Of course, the watch can still be adjusted manually by the wearer. It has been designed for use in contemporary environments and has passed all the tests required for urban use: resistance to micro-shocks and magnetic fields, along with temperature and aging cycle.

The World of In Real Life (IRL) will not be the only playground for the 10 lucky owners of Octo Finissimo Ultra, as Bulgari has once again broken the line between real and virtual.

Each Octo Finissimo Ultra carries a unique QR code that opens up a digital world. This QR code is placed on the large ratchet wheel on the main dial. It is the attraction, a symbol of ultimate mechanical mastery that ushers in a new era: the era of interconnection between the mechanical and digital worlds, of NFT and blockchain.

By scanning the code engraved on the barrel’s ratchet, each owner can access a personal mini-website. It will feature videos and photos of their watchmaking process, along with sketches and behind-the-scenes interviews.

Each watch is also accompanied by a work of NFT art created under the artistic direction of Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani, Executive Director of Product Innovation at Bulgari Watches. This composition tells the story of his decades-long experience in the world of Octo and the path that led to the birth of the Octo Finissimo Ultra.

This ahead-of-time calculation has made the watch a treasure in the NFT, a timeless relationship guaranteed by Bvlgari Singvlarity technology, the eighth patent of this version. Thanks to the blockchain, it confirms the indivisible link between Bulgari’s creation and the related NFT artwork, while preserving the authenticity and ownership of both physical and virtual.
