The day after announcing her departure from Adidas, Beyoncé made waves in the fashion industry when she announced her handshake with Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing.

On one side is the talented designer who has shaken all fashion rules. On one side is the female singer who broke all Grammy records. The handshake made the fans sob. The songs on the Renaissance album that once made the music industry crazy in July 2022, will now be depicted as complete costumes.

After being captivated by the disco Renaissance record, Balmain’s Creative Director teamed up with Beyoncé herself to design the couture collection. Aspects of the historic handshake of this partnership.

This seems to be the first time a black singer has taken on the role of curator of high fashion designs from a French fashion house. And those designs were created with the creation of an early black designer at a historic home in Balmain.

Tombs is looking forward to those first two designs that will help inspire many others. But personally, Olivier Rousteing is enjoying the simple pleasure of creating something new and making Beyoncé’s “glorious, joy-filled art” his own. He shared:

“Beyoncé stands for freedom above all, for freedom in today’s world… This is a powerful voice that resonates. Beyoncé boldly uses music to inspire diversity and pay homage to the gay community, celebrating popular home, ballroom, and prom music.

Under the skillful hands and superior craftsmanship of the fashion house Balmain, led by Olivier Rousteing, this collaboration brings together 17 haute couture styles. 16 of them are designs corresponding to the Renaissance tracklist, starting with the confidence I’m That Girl and ending with the liberal Summer Renaissance.

Even the styles correspond to songs on the Renaissance album. Like the song, Alien Superstar is compared to a sparkling bodysuit with headgear. Heated’s tune, on the other hand, is a fitted black hooded gown studded with artificial crystals. In the past, Beyoncé has been seen wearing a few looks from the collection – namely, a pale pink dress with a gold breastplate and a matching hat in an Instagram post following the Grammy Awards.

“Olivier is a dream partner and a designer who is constantly innovating and evolving. As a designer of color, Olivier does everything he can to tear down and open the doors of inspiration. From the first meeting and many years of wearing Olivier designs to show, I knew that one day I would collaborate with Olivier on a collection. I am very proud of what we have created.”

If in 2022 social media has to complain about the difficult process to win tickets to Beyoncé’s tour, in 2023 the possibility of getting your hands on the Balmain x Beyoncé look will be much more difficult. Especially since Balmain claims this collection is a one-off product and will not be for sale.
