Taking over from Daniel Lee’s post-era Bottega Veneta, Creative Director Matthieu Blazy demonstrated his timeless vision with designs that celebrate the fine craftsmanship and practicality of the Fall-Winter 2023 Collection. at this year’s Milan Fashion Week.
Bottega Veneta fall-winter 2023 collection: end of the “Italia” trilogy honoring the past, present, and future of Matthieu blazy
Reportedly, the main inspiration for this collection comes from the street, which Blazy describes as “everyone has a place and is completely non-hierarchical”. Above all, it’s also the idea of a carnival, where everyone is headed in the same direction even though they don’t know where the destination is yet. Bottega Veneta’s current Creative Director even borrowed Boccioni statues and Roman bronzes from museums as “part of a parade” to emphasize the theme of the collection. Through this, he also wants to connect Italy through its rich history and rich culture.
In this collection, neutral colors still “dominate” the catwalk, interwoven with mint green and butter yellow designs, colors that both stand out and flatter the eyes. Although the collection does not have a mainstream trend because 81 designs all have their own stories, when grouping Blazy’s ideas together, fans can notice some common denominators such as ostrich skin, tassels, and tassels. feather fringes and burnt red crocodile skin trenchcoats, etc.
Blazy’s designs are creative and fun not only in the form of the costumes but also in the expensive details, including the oversized suit and cut. Freedom, a dress with accents at the hips, a peplum dress with a puffy collar, or a long coat with fringes create a lively, flexible look for the model’s every step.
The most prominent designs are the layered dress with skillfully embroidered flowers, reminiscent of the luxurious, out-of-the-way dress of the 1950s movie star, and the iconic little black dress. with a fringed neckline, combined with the famous Intrecciato boots, a knitting technique developed exclusively by the Bottega Veneta artisan. What makes the fans admire Bottega Veneta is that even at the top, the fashion house still maintains the spirit of experimentation with visual deception effects. The little striped pajamas, the feathers strewn across the designs, and even the faux wool socks are all made of leather.
In particular, when supermodel Liu Wen finished the performance with a simple white tank top combined with jeans and a pink shirt tied at the waist, Bottega Veneta seemed to want to send a hidden message to fashion lovers – Class is always expressed through the simplest and most intimate things at this fashion house.
